about

The work on "Thanatos", which was meant to be the complete polar opposite of its predecessor was started shortly after it's been released. At first it was imagined as an album of shorter lenght, which as time went on proved impossible due to the amount of material recorded. Just like "Corona, "Thanatos" is a collection of compositions based off of sketches and ideas as old as 10 years. This time the final versions of the tracks can be characterized as heavy, dissonant, overdriven and at the same time thoroughly musical and memorable. Music for Tomasz Turski has always been a gateway towards relationships; introspective - on "Corona" and aimed at the vast realms of nothingness on "Void" released as Widziadło. On "Thanatos" Turski delves deep into earth. Earth as a witness of life. Our planet can be characterized as "present". "Present" as in fully engulfed in reality through thousand-year old baobab trees to recently sprung spruce saplings. This overwhelming and everreaching presence can be best described as a form of memory. Turski wants to explore that impenetrable permanence. Lyrically, Thanatos explores the stagnation and repetitiveness of the human existence. The record poses a question; "What if all that happened before?". Regardless of how we'll lead our life it all ends and starts the same way. Throughout the process of analyzing the lyrical aspect of the record the "gift of life" starts to gain a bitter and negative connotation. Thanatos; the greek god of death personifies that change precisely - a young muscular men; some can say - full of life yet intertwined with his mortal nature. The record makes you experience death as not only a physical fact.
